Today, I want to give you a recipe.
This is what I developed as my cure for my insane ambition and empty striving. For way too many years, I have been struggling my way towards sh*tty goals and then hating the results.
Goal setting can be a beautiful way to self-discovery and I have been doing it wrong for so long, that I truly need to share this with you.
So read attentively and take some notes, the following can make all the difference between ending up in burn-out and living a blissful life.
#1 Drop into the now
Where you are at this time is great. It’s perfect. It’s exactly where you need to be.
This is the ideal place to start out from towards your future.
Start your journey towards achieving your goals by being completely satisfied with where you are right now.
What is going great?
What are you celebrating?
What do you love about your life right now?
What are you grateful for?
Soak it up, bathe in it, love it.
This is perfect AND you can have more.
#2 Paint your ideal future
In 10 years, who do you want to be?
How do you want to live?
What do you want to be known for?
What do you want the people around you to feel like?
What do you want to give?
What do you want to receive?
What do you want the world to be like?
Take a piece of paper and write down your vision.
Now, do it again.
Scratch deeper, pour even more love into your vision.
#3 Envision the path
This used to be one of my biggest pitfalls. I would dive into my picture of the future, feel it, see it, live it and then wake up from my dream and get so uninspired when thinking about all of the steps I would have to take to get there.
The antidote for this is to envision the steps that will take you to your ideal future.
How do you see yourself working every day?
How do you want to feel on your way there?
What if the path to your vision could be just as exciting as reaching that end goal?
How could you savor the steps and enjoy the journey?
When you are clear on what you want the path to success to be like, we need to get specific.
And ignore those who tell you that reverse engineering your goals and getting extremely precise about it is the only way.
If you enjoy breaking your big goals up into tiny chunks and scheduling them, go ahead. If you are a freedom lover like me and just thinking about having a set schedule for the next 10 years makes you feel like you’re choking, try the following:
Don’t expect yourself to have it all figured out, embrace detours and just ask for one step at a time.
Ask for one step at a time.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to trust that after having taken one step, the next will naturally reveal itself?
Because it naturally does, but so often we are unwilling to look.
“What is the next right move?”
Pray it, sing it, breathe it, love it with innocent curiosity. Open your hands to the sky and drop deeply into yourself.
“What is the next right move?”
Let the wisdom in you light up the answer.
You’ll know you found the perfect answer when it’s easy and powerful. The answer might be: “Reach out to that agent.” Or, “invite my e-mail list”, or “say no to this”.
The space below your navel knows. Trust that the answer is perfect and move with it.
Do it. Trust it.
Celebrate! You are one step closer to living your dreams!
Have some chocolate and then repeat the steps!
What is the most valuable ingredient you took from my secret sauce today?
